 Barstow is located in San Bernardino County, midway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. With a population of 23,429 and situated 2,106 feet above sea level. Part of an area known as the "High Desert", Barstow is located 159 miles south of Las Vegas, 138 miles northeast of the metropolitan area of Los Angeles, and 176 miles north of San Diego. Barstow receives an average of 317 days of sunshine per year, with temperatures in the low 20's to high 70's in the winter months, and low 50's to 120 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer months. Barstow is at the entrance of the Mojave National Preserve and is home to the U.S. Army National Training Center at Ft. Irwin, Marine Corps Logistics Base, NASA's Goldstone Deep Space Network, Veterans Home of California, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad's classification yard. There's plenty to do in Barstow, with two 9-hole golf courses and a sports park with 6 ball fields, 2 soccer fields and a covered roller hockey arena and two concession areas. Also present are the Factory Merchants Outlet and Tanger Outlet Centers which together prides more than 120 outlet stores. Barstow extends all the chief conveniences of small town living with the resources and enjoyment of major metropolitan areas only a short distance away. |
